Thriston Lawrence finds the long prairie-style grass on the 305-yard par-four 17th going for the green.

He looks in a world of trouble but somehow, he not only finds his ball in there but chips it out to 18 feet and then saves his par.

    Spaun -4 (13)

Our leader is safely in the hole for par on the 13th. Two putts. Simple.

  • DeChambeau bogey at the thirdpublished at 22:02 British Summer Time 13 June

    Schauffele +3, DeChambeau +6 (12*)

This is a brutish par putt for Bryson DeChambeau as he weighs up 23 feet to avoid dropping a shot at the third.

Nope it's missed and he nudges one step back towards the cut line, currently projected at +7.

It is a par for Xander Schauffele though as they head into the final third of their second round.

  • Bogey for Stevenspublished at 22:00 British Summer Time 13 June

    Stevens +1 (8*)

Perhaps feeling the pressure of getting under par at the US Open, Sam Stevens follows a bogey on the 16th with another on the 17th.

He chased the green with his tee shot and came up just short of the putting surface. But he's unable to advance his ball out of the gnarly lie. Shot three makes the green but he shoves his three-footer for par. Bogey.

I do wonder if there's any value in laying up on this hole, having control with a wedge from the fairway and trying to go in close to chase a birdie.

    Scott E (11)

Adam Scott has been stuck in the logjam at the 12th hole for what feels like an eternity but while he's been in limbo his position has been rising.

With only five players in the red, Scott's score of level par is now good enough for sixth.

Someone tells him as he's chipping out of the rough behind the 12th green at the moment.

    Spaun -4 (13)

JJ Spaun out with an eight-iron on the 161-yard par three 13th. And he does what so many have done before him today; he finds the middle of the green, refusing to take on a pin that is tucked away.

A 30-foot birdie chance coming up.

    Lawrence -3 (7*)

Thriston Lawrence has played in eight major championships and missed the cut in four.

He’s only finished better than tied for 42nd in one of those when he was fourth last year at the Open Championship at Royal Troon.

He shot 65, 68 one that weekend and led going to the back nine on Sunday.

Frankly it would be pretty amazing if he's heading the pack come tomorrow morning. The 28-year-old finds the long stuff to the right of the dance floor on the par-three 16th and dumps his ball well short of the pin with his second.

With three straight birdies and three consecutive bogeys, he's back where he started around two-and-a-half hours ago.

  • Spaun back in solo leadpublished at 21:51 British Summer Time 13 June

    Spaun -4 (12)

JJ Spaun is back into the sole lead despite only managing a par on the 647-yard 12th, which is playing as the 15th easiest hole on the course right now.

  • Detry on the move!published at 21:50 British Summer Time 13 June

    Detry -2 (9*)

Here comes Belgian Thomas Detry, who has made back-to-back birdies on 17 and 18 to shoot up to two under and into fourth spot on the leaderboard after a fine front nine.

Starting from hole 10, Detry made an opening double bogey but has since carded three birdies and an eagle to cancel out two further bogeys to turn in 34, one under for the day and two under overall.

    McIlroy +7 (10)

Rory Mcilroy can't find the landing area on the 11th, instead the sand awaits and all of a sudden more trouble is lurking.

His second flies through the green to the rough and that birdie putt that narrowly missed on the 10th now looks all the more damaging.

  • A textbook Bryson birdiepublished at 21:45 British Summer Time 13 June

    Schauffele +3, DeChambeau +5, Ballester +9 (11*)

The short par-four second hole is a green light for Bryson DeChambeau, who fires a tee shot up there, chips up to 12 feet and rolls in a birdie as easy as you like.

That's an excellent hole and also moves him a shot further away from that projected cut line as he's now five over.

  • Bogey for Bob on 18published at 21:41 British Summer Time 13 June

    MacIntyre +2 (9*)

Bob MacIntyre ends his first nine with a bogey on 18 after finding the rough off the tee, which usually ends up costing you a shot at Oakmont.

That's four bogeys and just two birdies in a front nine of 37 for the Scotsman, who is two over for the tournament, which doesn't sound great but it's actually good for 11th place right now.

  • Postpublished at 21:35 British Summer Time 13 June

    Detry -1 (8*)

Thomas Detry won't let Oakmont keep him down for too long, as he responds to a bogey on 15 with a birdie on 17 to get back under par for the tournament.

Just seven players in red numbers as it stands.

  • Back-to-back bogeys for Lawrencepublished at 21:31 British Summer Time 13 June

    Lawrence -4 (6*)

Back-to-back bogeys for Thriston Lawrence, who now only has a share of the lead.

The collar at the back of the 15th means he bumps his first putt almost nine feet past and he can't make the par saver coming back.

  • Fleetwood from downtownpublished at 21:29 British Summer Time 13 June

    Fleetwood +7 (11*)

Tommy Fleetwood is still out there grinding trying to make the weekend, and with the cut projected to be seven over thing huge birdie putt he's just canned puts him right on the number.

Officially it's 32 feet and seven inches - that's downtown distance alright.

  • Bogey from smiling Schauffelepublished at 21:26 British Summer Time 13 June

    Schauffele +3, DeChambeau +6, Ballester +9 (10*)

Xander Schauffle is smiling and shaking his head at the same time as he drops a shot at the first hole. He said the US Open was all about having the right attitude and dealing with regular disappointment, and that's what he's trying to do right now as he drops back to three over.

Bryson DeChambeau is dealing with his own disappointment as the defending champion also makes a bogey to drop back to six over.

  • Birdie for Matsuyamapublished at 21:23 British Summer Time 13 June

    Scott E, Matsuyama +6, Aberg +7 (11)

Three good approach shots to the 11th green but only Hideki Matsuyama can capitalise to make a birdie, which takes him to six over par for the championship.

That puts the Japanese golfer in a tie for 62nd at the moment - the top 60 and ties make it through to the weekend.

  • Postpublished at 21:23 British Summer Time 13 June

    Detry E (7*)

Thomas Detry made an amazing eagle a bit earlier on, but he handed a shot right back at the next hole to slip back to level par.

That's good enough for T7 though right now.

  • Mickelson dropping backpublished at 21:22 British Summer Time 13 June

    Mickelson +5 (8)

Phil Mickelson started solidly but he's dropped a couple of shots on seven and eight and suddenly he's in that group of players aiming to keep their head just above the cut line.

  • A Bob birdiepublished at 21:18 British Summer Time 13 June

    MacIntyre +1 (8*)

Bob MacIntyre rattles in a birdie putt on 17 to get back to one over - and I mean rattles as he smacked that from 30 feet and it could've got almost that far past the hole had it not banged into the back of the cup and dropped.

    He'll take that though.
